New Foundation for Kids

HealthONE® family welcomes a new addition

DENVER (October 15, 2009) — HCA-HealthONE® LLC announces today the establishment of a non-profit foundation, Rocky Mountain Children's Health Foundation, serving the Rocky Mountain Region. The Foundation is being headed by long-time healthcare executive and foundation leader, Executive Director Patricia L. Peterson.

Rocky Mountain Children's Health Foundation was formed to fill an important gap in our communities by directly helping families who need assistance while their children are hospitalized or undergoing treatment; and assisting nurses, physicians and staff in education to improve medical care for children.

"I am thrilled to launch Rocky Mountain Children's Health Foundation, in support of the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children," Peterson said. "We are driven to provide excellent care, while continuing to expand our services to meet the growing healthcare needs of the Rocky Mountain region. The addition of the Foundation to Denver will bring much needed support to our community friends in need."

"There are many unmet needs of pediatric patients and their families that existing organizations don't serve. Our hospitals also have had many grateful patients ask for ways they can help other patients and families undergoing similar experiences," said Mimi Roberson, President and CEO of Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center and RMHC. "Pat will be working with all HealthONE hospitals to determine the best way for the Foundation to support patients and their medical caregivers. She is incredibly passionate and motivated to help patients and families."

Peterson started with Rocky Mountain Children's Health Foundation in August. She is a registered nurse and attorney, and most recently worked at Memorial Health System in Colorado Springs for nearly 10 years. She was in-house counsel for Memorial, and later accepted the position of President and CEO of the Memorial Health System Foundation.

"Our Foundation has an important role because unlike other foundations, Rocky Mountain Children's Health Foundation will not fund bricks and mortar or hospital staffing," Peterson said. "People can be confident their generosity will directly help our youngest patients and their families, and support the broader mission to improve medical care for all pediatric patients."

Requests for grants will be accepted beginning in late 2010. For donations to meet these future requests, contact Executive Director, Patricia Peterson, at 303-839-6829 or via email

About HealthONE's Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children Family of Hospitals

Through a rigorous affiliation process, hospitals throughout metro Denver agree to provide consistent, high-quality, and experienced pediatric care by adhering to a comprehensive set of guidelines and requirements, thus creating the "Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children Family of Care." Children will experience the same clinical and service excellence wherever the RMHC name is attached to a hospital's pediatric service. HealthONE hospitals provided pediatric care to nearly 100,000 children — from newborns to teens — in 2008 through inpatient, outpatient and emergency services.
